IIM B ENTREPRENEUR MINDSET

​​PDEU Innovation and Incubation Centre (PDEU IIC) hosted an insightful workshop aimed at educating and empowering emerging entrepreneurs and student innovators. The workshop was structured into three focused sessions, each addressing a critical aspect of entrepreneurial growth.

Session 1: Understanding Startup Challenges & the Importance of Action

The workshop began with an interactive discussion on common challenges faced by new ventures—ranging from scaling, team building, and market fit to financial sustainability and stress management. Participants formed small teams and brainstormed business ideas focused on revenue generation. Dr. Sachidananda emphasized that action, not just ideation, drives entrepreneurship. A thought experiment involving three jars was used to illustrate how startups must balance prediction, adaptability, and uncertainty in their decision-making.

Session 2: Startup Validation, Lean Thinking & Innovation Metrics

This session focused on validating business ideas using real customer behavior and the Lean Startup methodology. Participants learned to identify users, buyers, and customers, and the importance of engaging directly with their target audience to avoid false assumptions. Tools like the Lean Canvas and Business Model Canvas were introduced, alongside innovation metrics such as AARRR (Acquisition, Activation, Revenue, Retention, Referral). Real startup examples were shared to highlight MVP development challenges and the importance of clear customer communication during product evolution.

Session 3: Effectual Thinking & Co-Creation in Entrepreneurship

The final session introduced effectuation, a mindset where entrepreneurs leverage what they already have to build ventures amidst uncertainty. Dr. Sachidananda highlighted five principles including starting with available resources, focusing on affordable loss, and co-creating with partners. Through real-world examples—such as the creation of the Ice Hotel—participants explored how collaboration and adaptability often lead to more innovative business models than traditional planning alone.
